Hi there,
I think, it would be more useful to write my tutorials in english(?) – even though my english isn’t the best :)
I ran into this problem, with InDesign – I wanted to make a background color behind some of my words in an ad – but I never thought there would be any other way, than create a box, fill it with a color and put in the layer below the text. That annoyed me a lot – because when I edit the text, I have to move all the colored boxes as well. Sigh!
But ey, there is a solution!
First of all – create a text-box, fill in some text… Now you have some words that you would like to highlight, with a background color!
Go to Window > Styles > Character Styles – this will open up a new window, that we have to do some tricks with. (To make this easier for you, mark a word that you would like to highlight, check preview – then you can live edit it).
Now, create a new Character Style, by clicking on the little document in the Character Style window (lower right corner). You’ll get another window – and from here you go to Basic Character Formats.
Depending on your font size, you’ll have to play around with the settings – but if you keep it to 20 pt. you can use the same settings as me for this tip. Check ‘Underline’ which is the key. (Tip; if you’re working in inches/mm/cm, just type in 20 pt, press tab – and it will automatically change it, to whatever you’re using)
Go to Character color – and those your font color here… I picked white – because I wanted my background to be magenta and the text to be white.
Now you go to Underline Options and check Underline On and in my case, my weight will be 16 pt. and by setting the Offset to be -7 pt. it will perfectly match my font, but of course as background color.
Play around with colors, sizes and maybe even Gap options – be creative and thank you for reading this :)
Suggestions and comments are more than welcome, regarding this tutorial.
